Website content is the cornerstone to the digital presence of any online business. Ideally, website copy should be completed well before website design or development begins. The work I do will inform what the website sitemap or structure should be i.e. how many pages you should have on your website. The content that will be required on each page will also impact on how each page should be designed. If content is an afterthought as opposed to the initial activity, you could end up restructuring and redesigning numerous areas of your website which will cost more in the long term!

My process:

As a writer with a background in digital marketing, the first thing I do when tasked with creating website content is conduct thorough keyword research based on your business, your industry sector and the goals of your business. Keywords are queries that people input into search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo so you would want your website to target keywords that will bring relevant traffic to your website i.e. those who are most likely to make an enquiry or purchase.  

By conducting thorough keyword research, I can ascertain which keywords would be most beneficial to target, how many need to be targeted and therefore how many pages you will need on your website. The results will determine the website sitemap. You will receive a copy of my keyword research and I’ll provide my reasoning to why I’ve chosen certain keywords over others.

Then, I can go about creating the website content for each page centred around the selected keywords. Within the copy I create, I will provide comments that will aid the designer. For example, where call to action buttons or contact forms should be placed. I will also provide Meta Titles and Meta Descriptions so you won’t have to worry about those either.

Once I have complete all of the required website copy, we have a meeting whether it be in person or remotely where I can go through the website content I’ve created with you. Any necessary tweaks can be made there and then. I’ll then provide you with a final version of the copy and the work will be completed. Sounds thorough and all encompassing right?
